Race Office Politics

Race Office Politics – In this article Gale King (Chief Administrative Officer of Nationwide) and Cynthia Marshall (Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity Office of Human Resources) are on a panel describing their experiences as black woman aiming for executive positions. During this panel they express the importance of watching your surroundings and to know that somebody is always watching your reactions when you’ve been played a “bad hand”, but also how unfairly you will be judged on those reactions. They also express the importance of making your voice heard when it comes to race in the workplace. The article also speaks on how they, themselves, create safe spaces at their companies for African Americans to express “angst or anger”, but also for others to gain insight and empathy for the current events happening.
